Woodpecker Pool Newsletter May 2010

Welcome to our first in season newsletter and tell you how Woodpecker is fishing after such a long winter. The weather for quite a few weeks has been very good with temperatures up in the low 30°c on some days until this week when we have had cold north easterly winds and a lot of rain and even snow yesterday 6th May, absolutely unbelievable just when we thought summer was on its way temperatures have plummeted once again and no sign of that getting much better in the near future. Anyway let us now move onto what has been caught here over the last few weeks.

Our first people here on 20th March were the Brown family Mark, Jenny and daughter Charlotte along with friend John Rohr. Mark is the guy who has worked so hard for us rebuilding and modernising our web site, a very big thank you Mark for all the hard work and for making our web site very modern and user friendly. Now onto the fishing for their week, only Mark and John fishing and being March after such a long winter what would the result be.
Well all things considered with some cold nights and some very warm days they had an excellent week catching a total of 37 fish made up of carp of  2 singles, 7 doubles, 19 x 20s, 5 x 30s and 1 x 40, 1 Catfish at 39lb 15oz and the Diamond Back Sturgeon.
The best Mirror was 41lb 13oz and the best Common 31lb 10oz. The total weight was 963lb 15oz for an average of 26lb 1oz.

A great weeks fishing for very early in the year and the weather was pretty good also for the time of year.We thank you all for your company during the week and it was a pleasure to meet you John and we look forward to seeing you all again in the near future.

April 3rd saw the return of Nicky Mills and James Parkyn for their second time here, so how would the week pan out for them.

They also had a mixed bag of weather but some of the bigger carp had decided to get their heads down and feed this week with some fine specimens landed The total for the week was 23 fish including 1 x single, 2 x doubles, 5 x 20s, 10 x 30s and 1 x 40 all carp, 2 catfish of 45lb 6oz and 71lb a new personal best for James and 2 pike of 5lb and a NEW LAKE RECORD of 17lb 2oz to Nicky. There was also a new personal best for Nicky in the shape of a New Lake Record Mirror of 47lb 11oz, well done Nicky on such a great fish not only for you but also for Woodpecker. The total weight was 693lb 9oz for an average of 30lb 1oz which included the pike.

Another good week and thank you both for your company during the week and look forward to seeing you again next year.

The week beginning the 10th April and we welcomed back the Allen Family, Elsie, Terry and Anthony, they were here for 2 weeks so what would their time here bring.

The report is broken up into the two separate weeks. Week 1 produced 43 fish made up of 1 x single, 6 x doubles, 20 x 20s, 7 x 30s and 1 x 40 carp, 6 catfish including 3 x 60+, the diamond back sturgeon twice and the first grass carp to grace the bank at 22lb 4oz. The best Mirror was 42lb 14oz, best Common 30lb 6oz and the best Catfish 69lb 4oz, they also had 1 pike of 11lb. The total weight was 1289lb 7oz for an average of 29lb 5oz.

A great week 1 so what would happen in week 2.

Week 2 continued in a similar vain but even better with a total of 53 fish caught made up of 4 x singles, 11 doubles, 20 x 20s, 9 x 30s and 3 different 40s carp, 4 Catfish including 2 x 50+ and 1 x 60+, the diamond back sturgeon once, also 2 Grass Carp which were the same fish. A few smaller carp caught this week, these fish are from the latest stocking last December, they will grow on hopefully to become some really good fish of the future. The best Mirror was 42lb 8oz, the best Common 31lb 4oz, best Catfish 68lb 8oz and they also had 4 Pike to 11lb 8oz. The total weight was 1372lb 2oz for an average of 25lb 14oz, that is really good considering the number of smaller carp caught.

Two fantastic weeks with some lovely fish caught of several species. Thank you all very much for your company and banter during the fortnight and we look forward to seeing you all next year.
