The Lake…
Doug and Sue Summers bought the lake and house in 2005 with a vision to turn it into the perfect getaway for carp anglers. Doug had been fishing for over 50 years and was already a well-travelled angler having fished around the UK, Ireland, and France, with other expeditions to Canada, America, India, and Kazakhstan!
Woodpecker Pool is a mature lake originally excavated alongside the main house to serve as a source of water and food for the owners.
Together they renovated the old barn that came with the property to make it the ideal accommodation for anglers, right next to the water so the holiday and fishing became one.

We sadly lost Doug in September 2025. Woodpecker Pool was Doug’s vision and passion, it will always be his lake, and he will always be missed.
Claire Coombes
Claire is Doug and Sue’s daughter and runs the lake on a day-to-day basis. She is the main contact for bookings and queries.
Sue Summers
Owner
Sue and Doug have built Woodpecker Pool together since 2005. Together they have made a magical venue which has made many anglers’ dreams come true.
